We regularly welcome high level guest instructors to join us on the mats in Yatton – from takedown specialists to competition black belts. Here's what's coming up, and where we've been.
Saturday 8th August 2026
This month Samurai Fitness Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy at The Studio, Yatton, North Somerset, held its annual Summer Charity Seminar.
The mission was to raise money for ‘The Not Forgotten’ Service Charity, which has been supporting veterans and service people suffering from injury and illness for 105 years.
Samurai Fitness and The Studio are both founded by former Royal Marine Commandos, so the charity is close to our hearts.
The event was open for all to attend, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes.
The Recovery & Wellness facilities were available post training, and onsite Principal Chiropractor Matt Sutton gave up his time to deliver treatment in support of the event.
The event proved a great success — putting Jiu Jitsu on the map in Yatton, with the money raised going towards supporting the veteran community.
We remember the fallen — let’s not forget the living.
Guest coaches travelled to support the event:

Samurai Fitness hosted an evening seminar with Andrew (Chivs) Chivers — a well respected Black Belt under the late Jimmy Johnstone, with 15 years of experience in competition and teaching.
Andrew's philosophy is simple: keep it moving, don't overcomplicate it, and play the long game. A wealth of experience, and we were delighted to welcome him to the mats.
A huge privilege, too, to have 4th Degree Black Belt Ian Rossiter on the mats supporting the session.

A ‘Guard Systems’ Seminar with Piers Roberts.
Piers received his Black Belt from Lucas Lepri in 2017 and has decades of martial arts experience. A veteran of the Parachute Regiment, he served on multiple operations including Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Piers has over 100 competition podium finishes, including:
The seminar focused on a concept-based approach to guard systems — and was definitely not to be missed.

Samurai Fitness hosted a Standing / Takedown Seminar with Mikey Monaghan — 1st Degree BJJ Black Belt (RGA) & 2nd Degree Judo Black Belt.
With over 22 years' experience in martial arts, Mikey covered, simplified and revolutionised the skill set of the BJJ practitioners on the mat.
His hybrid approach to techniques and game plans were not to be missed — a high-level coach with a wealth of experience, and probably the nicest bloke in Jiu Jitsu.
