If you live in Congresbury, you are closer to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy than almost anyone in North Somerset. Samurai Fitness is about five minutes up the road in Yatton.
It is a two-mile hop north on the A370 and then into Yatton — realistically five to ten minutes door to door, and often less outside of school-run times.
For a lot of Congresbury residents this is closer than the nearest commercial gym, and considerably closer than driving into Bristol for a martial arts class.
There is free parking on site, so there is no hunting for a space before a Wednesday evening session.
Get DirectionsProximity changes behaviour. Congresbury members tend to train more often than anyone, simply because there is no journey to talk yourself out of. Turning up twice a week stops being a plan and starts being a habit.
Both classes work equally well from Congresbury. If you are starting from scratch, Saturday 10:30am is the gentler introduction — it is the longer session and there is no clock-watching afterwards.
Samurai Fitness is led by Chris Last — a former Royal Marine Commando with 24 years of service, and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt under the Chamberlain Brothers at the Roger Gracie Academy Bristol, where he remains part of the coaching team.
He has trained across the United States, Thailand and Brazil, and is a qualified PT, fitness instructor, coach and mentor. In practice that means classes are run properly: structured, safe, and with actual attention paid to whoever is newest in the room.
