Backwell sits right on the A370 between Bristol and the coast, which makes Samurai Fitness in Yatton an easy addition to a route you probably already drive.
Head south-west on the A370 and turn into Yatton — usually ten to fifteen minutes. If you already drive this road to get to Bristol, you know how quickly it moves outside peak hours.
Backwell shares Nailsea & Backwell railway station, which is one stop from Yatton on the Great Western line. That gives you a genuine alternative to driving on a dark winter evening.
There is free parking on site, and we are a 2 minute walk from Yatton railway station.
Get DirectionsBackwell has a strong sporting culture, and a fair number of people arrive at BJJ from rugby or football — often looking for something that is still physical and competitive but does not punish the body in the same way.
If that is you, be aware that jiu jitsu will humble you for a while regardless of your athletic background. That is normal, it happens to everyone, and it is the part that makes it interesting.
Samurai Fitness is led by Chris Last — a former Royal Marine Commando with 24 years of service, and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt under the Chamberlain Brothers at the Roger Gracie Academy Bristol, where he remains part of the coaching team.
He has trained across the United States, Thailand and Brazil, and is a qualified PT, fitness instructor, coach and mentor. In practice that means classes are run properly: structured, safe, and with actual attention paid to whoever is newest in the room.
